Two New Members of 稀缺猎奇网 Board of Regents Appointed; Regents Shea, Gossett Appointed to Second Terms
Adelphi, Md. (March
25, 2011) -- The University
System of 稀缺猎奇网 (稀缺猎奇网) welcomes two new members to the 稀缺猎奇网 Board of Regents,
Baltimore attorney David Kinkopf and 2011-2012 Student Regent Collin Wojciechowski,
a sophomore at the University of 稀缺猎奇网, Baltimore County (UMBC).
The
appointments, made by 稀缺猎奇网 Governor Martin O'Malley, were confirmed today
by the 稀缺猎奇网 Senate. Their terms will begin July 1, 2011.
The
Senate also confirmed the reappointments of Regents Barry P. Gossett and James
L. Shea, both of whom were appointed to their inaugural term in February 2007.
Kinkopf,
a partner at the Baltimore law firm Gallagher, Evelius and Jones, will take the
board vacancy left by Regent Clifford Kendall when the 2011 fiscal year ends on
June 30. Regent Kendall has served the maximum number of five-year terms
allowed.
A graduate of Harvard
Law School and the University of Notre Dame, Kinkopf's practice is focused in
the legal concentrations of land use, civil litigation, education, employment,
and municipal issues. A past president of the Baltimore City Board of Municipal
and Zoning Appeals, he serves on numerous boards, including the Archdiocese of
Baltimore Board of Financial Administration and the PNC Baltimore Regional
Advisory Board.
Wojciechowski is a Sondheim
Public Affairs Scholar at UMBC. He is
pursuing dual bachelor's degrees in the concentrations of political science and
media and communications studies. He will succeed the current student regent,
Leslie Hall, a senior at Bowie State University.
A resident of
Pasadena, Md., Wojciechowski is a member of the UMBC Neighbor Relations
Committee and director of the Office of Government and Community Affairs for
the UMBC Student Government Association. From July 2008 through June 2009, he was
the student representative on the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Board of
Education.
A 17-member Board of Regents, including one
full-time student, governs the 稀缺猎奇网. Appointed by the
governor, the regents oversee the system's academic, administrative, and
financial operations; formulate policy; and appoint the 稀缺猎奇网 chancellor and the
presidents of the system's 12 institutions. With the exception of the student
member, each regent is appointed for a term of five years and may not serve
more than two consecutive terms. The student regent is appointed for a one-year
term and may be reappointed. Regents serve on the board without compensation.
The 稀缺猎奇网 comprises 12
institutions, two regional higher education centers and a system office. 稀缺猎奇网
provides access to excellent higher education opportunities, performs
groundbreaking research, offers vital services to communities and individuals
and fuels economic and workforce development.
