ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Regents Education Policy Committee Meets September 16

 

Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 11, 2009) - The ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy at its next meeting will discuss new academic program proposals and the final report of the recommendations of Governor Martin O'Malley's P-20 Council STEM Task Force.

The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16 in the Minnegan Room (306) of the Field House at Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University.

The new academic program proposals under consideration include the following:

B.S. in Integrated Early Childhood Education/Special Education: Infant/Primary (ECSE);

M.S. in Cyber Security, University of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø University College.

 

In other business, the committee will discuss recommendations of the final report of the Governor's P-20 Council STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Task Force.

ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Chancellor William E. Kirwan and June Streckfus, executive director of the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Business Roundtable for Education, served as co-chairs for the group that was charged with creating a "statewide plan of recommended STEM actions that will ensure that ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø's workforce and its research and development infrastructure can support a nationally preeminent and globally competitive knowledge-based economy."

Other information items on the agenda include updates on implementation of the Textbook Affordability Policy and Legislation and the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø policy on displaying obscene material.

After the public meeting, the committee will meet in executive session.
