Board of Regents to Meet April 11 at ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø at Hagerstown

Board to Confer Annual Regents' Faculty Awards

ADELPHI, Md. (April 4, 2008) - The University System of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø) Board of Regents will convene on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Hagerstown (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍøH) regional higher education center, 32 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø. The public meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Hagerstown center. The board will convene in executive session at 11:30 a.m.

During the meeting, the board will confer the annual Regents' Faculty Awards. Seventeen ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø educators and researchers will be honored for their accomplishments in the areas of research, scholarship, and creative activity; teaching; public service; mentoring; and collaboration.

Action items before the board include:

  • Board of Regents statement of guidance on the development of graduate programs concerning the environment;
  • New academic program proposals for a B.S. in information technology and B.S. in nursing at Frostburg State University; and a M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental science and technology at the University of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø, College Park;
  • Self-support charges and fees for FY 2009;
  • ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø 2008-2017 enrollment projections;
  • Proposed amendment to exempt staff employees salary structures.

In addition to reports from ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Chancellor William E. Kirwan and from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff, and students, the board will receive reports from the Regents' audit and institutional assessment committee; effectiveness and efficiency work group; capital campaign work group; and campus safety and security work group.
