ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Board of Regents Holds Annual Retreat October 13

Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 11, 2022) -- The ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø) Board of Regents will hold its annual retreat on Thursday, October 13. The retreat will be held at The Hotel at the University of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø, in the Terrapin Ballroom.

The board retreat is a day of discussion sessions designed to address ongoing challenges and opportunities in the higher education landscape, both nationally and in ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø.

The public meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. with a brief update from ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Chancellor Jay A. Perman regarding the new ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Vision 2030 Strategic Plan. Roger Ward, the provost and executive vice president of the University of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø, Baltimore (UMB), will lead off a series of discussions regarding governance.

The retreat includes an update on a recent report from the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS); a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion discussion regarding a multi-campus post-doctoral initiative to diversity the professoriate; and a research segment, “Powering the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Research and Development Enterprise for Growth and Impact,” presented by Michele Masucci, the recently appointed ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø vice chancellor for research and economic development.

At 12:50 p.m., will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The items are a crisis management discussion and exercise and a discussion of Board of Regents survey results.

The retreat will resume in public session (after 2:30 p.m.) with a legislative session preview featuring a discussion with budget chairs of the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø General Assembly—Sen. Guy Guzzone and Del. Ben Barnes. It is anticipated the retreat will conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m.
