Statement by ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Chancellor Jay A. Perman on International Education Week

Baltimore, Md. (Nov. 15, 2021) The ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø is engaged every day in supporting scholars and researchers, and preparing students to tackle the most intractable problems facing our state, our nation, and our world. Our priority—always—is discovering and applying the knowledge that helps solve the greatest challenges of our age.

In service of this goal, we’re expanding and innovating global learning opportunities for ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø students here and abroad so that they have the knowledge, skills, and experiences to lead the next generation of creative problem solvers.

The ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø is dedicated to moving ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø forward, but our obligation to serve the public good goes well beyond our borders. Indeed, we understand that we are all inextricably linked—that what happens in ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø affects the world, and that what happens in the world affects ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø.

And so our universities continue to welcome more than 10,000 international students and faculty, who enrich our diverse and scholarly communities with their ideas, their perspectives, and their talents. Our students and faculty are dedicated to building greater empathy toward others and to practicing international cooperation, collaboration, and innovation. These values align perfectly with those of the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø and of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø, as we all work together to make a healthier, wealthier, more just, and more equitable world.

is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, promoting the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. During this celebration, ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø institutions highlight programs that demonstrate the enormous contributions of our international students and scholars, that showcase the work of the System’s international education offices, and that build awareness of global learning and exchange opportunities.
