ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Board of Regents Meets February 9

Adelphi, Md. (Feb. 7, 2018) – The ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø) Board of Regents (BOR) at its next meeting will hold an educational forum on the Association of Governing Boards Guardians Initiative and act on several matters previously approved by BOR standing committees.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be held in the Hilda and Michael Bogomolny Room (5th floor) of the Student Center at the University of Baltimore (UB), located at 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue, Baltimore, MD.

Association of Governing Boards (AGB) President Rick Legon will discuss The Guardians Initiative, an AGB campaign to educate and engage trustees as advocates on key issues in higher education.

Voting matters before the board include two new academic programs at Towson University and facilities-related matters at various ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø institutions. The board also will vote on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø and the Southern ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Higher Education Center that will create ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø’s third regional higher education center.
The MOU would help to provide ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø with a well-established partner in bringing advanced education and training opportunities to the St. Mary’s County region.

The board will hear reports from the chancellor, councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students. The final public session item is a vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.

These items include various personnel matters (including presidential reviews); legislative audit matters that are ongoing and, therefore, confidential; collective bargaining negotiations; lease of real property in College Park; approval of recommendations for ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Regents’ Faculty Awards; and any other items that fall under categories specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.
