Three ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Regents Committees to Meet June 8

Adelphi, Md. (June 6, 2017) -- Three committees of the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø) Board of Regents will hold meetings on Thursday, June 8. The meetings will be held in the Talon Center at Coppin State University, 2500 W. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD.

The Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet at 8 a.m. in Room 214. The committee will hear an item on board policy reviews and then will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to consider collective bargaining and personnel items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. At 10 a.m., the Committee on Finance will meet in Room 218 and vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to consider items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items are eight real property acquisitions in the city of Salisbury; potential acquisition of property in Baltimore County; the lease of properties in Princess Anne; and the proposed fiscal year (FY) 2019 capital budget submission prior to Governor's submission to the legislature.

The public session is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The agenda includes votes on the facilities master plan update for the University of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø, Baltimore (UMB) and a proposed FY 2018 contract between UMB and the University of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Medical System. The committee will receive an information item on the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Dashboard Indicators, which summarize critical measures of success and compliance in a wide array of board initiatives. The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet in public session in Room 218 at 12:20 p.m. The featured start-up, Potomac Photonics, is located at the bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park. Commercial and government agencies have recognized the firm for innovation in areas such as medical devices, biotech, electronics, aerospace, and alternative energy applications. The committee will be briefed on the new strategic plan for the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), emphasizing the Institute's innovation and entrepreneurship programs. The committee will also consider for approval proposed revisions to the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Policy on Classified and Proprietary Research (IV-2.20). Finally, the committee will be updated on selected ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø economic development initiatives.
