Moving from Hope to Action: Putting Equity into Practice in Open Education
Angela DeBarger, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Program Officer
In this session, participants examine what it means to take action to address equity in open education. The session explores questions such as: How can learning experiences look and feel different? How can we work collectively to change educational systems? What can we each be doing on a personal level to prepare ourselves for deeper work on equity and inclusion?
Promoting Social Justice via Open Educational Practices
Maha Bali, American University in Cairo, Associate Professor of Practice, Center for Learning and Teaching
In this session, participants explored the different dimensions of social justice: economic, cultural and political, and how a variety of open educational practices can help promote various dimensions of social justice. This was also an exercise in imagination: in what ways can we tweak our current practices so that they promote social justice more transformatively within our context and for our marginalized communities?
